Its first measuring pass crashed on a site whose sitemap held more dated URLs than a spread call can take, which was fixed in the engine. The second pass kept 59 subjects from 194 results, and reading every kept row by hand showed the screen had failed: 115 slots were already directories, and the 59 kept included software pages, an encyclopedia of life, a Linux manual page, a news story, nine more directories and forums, and twelve sites that either describe themselves as a referral service connecting homeowners with contractors or show no identifiable local operator. Three markets (Columbus, Kansas City, Jonesboro) returned no tree removal result at all, and one search (Las Vegas) failed and returned nothing. Every kept site was opened by hand; the lead generation sites are excluded on their own wording, the unverifiable ones under a separate reason, and the three failed markets leave the analysis with their reason recorded. What remained, 33 page-one slots held by 29 tree companies in 20 markets, turned the study from how big page-one sites are into who holds page one at all, with site size reported as a secondary,
